To celebrate National Arbour Week the KwaZulu-Natal Museum visited the Nkabibi Primary School (Elandskop), Vumuthando Primary School (Swayimane), Nyambayi Primary School (Richmond) and Mzimba Primary School (Dlokwakhe) and planted 4 trees in each school – orange tree, Aloe Africana, Water Berry and apricot tree.
The aim of the initiative was to create awareness about the importance of trees and to encourage planting of indigenous trees. These schools were chosen as they have little or no trees in their school yard. While there are many schools that need this kind of awareness the Museum aims to visit different schools each year with this awareness campaign. The KZN Museum partnered with Department of Agriculture on this project and received a very positive response from the educators and learners from all the schools visited.
