Storytelling and Book Celebration Festival


The Gcinamasiko Art & Heritage Trust and the KwaZulu-Natal Museum will be hosting a Storytelling & Book Celebration Festival on the 16 April 2014, at the KwaZulu-Natal Museum.  Dr Gcina Mhlophe is the Executive Director of the Gcinamasiko Art & Heritage Trust. She is an activist, actor, storyteller, poet, playwright, director and author and will be performing at the festival. The key note speaker is Duzi Canoe Marathon champion, Mr Sibonelo Zondi, who will share the story of his amazing journey. Other speakers include Sanelisiwe Ntuli, a talented young storyteller from Mpumalanga Township, Gogo Mabhengu, multi-instrumentalist from Eshowe and Zenzele Mvelase from Ladysmith, who will share poetry and stories. This event will also serve as the official launch the BRAILLE Edition of the children’s book, STORIES OF AFRICA, translated into braille by BIBLIONEF South Africa, published by University of KZN Press. There will be two sessions, 9:00-11:00 for primary schools and 12:00–2:00 for high schools. Participating schools may do a presentation of a poetry, drama, music etc. and will also receive book donations. There is no entry fee.
